Overview
ReGS is a project supported by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Centre for Excellence to develop mobile and flexible working in Local Authority public and environmental protection. The project started as a partnership between Barnsley and Sheffield Councils. Within the project are five Proof of Concept groups who are designing pilot programmes of work to implement mobile and flexible working.
This work is being carried out in partnership with Kirona, a mobile working software company, using handheld data capture systems.
Traditionally, staff delivering these key front line services tend to be office based and travel to sites to undertake inspections before returning to the office to record actions and produce letters and reports (usually involving the back office system – e.g. Civica's Authority Public Protection system, or Northgate Land & Property).
Professional officers can often spend less than half of their time actually undertaking inspections, with repetitive administrative tasks and double handling of inspection data limiting their productivity. By developing real time mobile technology solutions, which integrate remotely with the back office, officers will enjoy greater freedom and be able to spend more time with businesses and citizens advising, enforcing and educating.
