Devices

Significant research has been carried out into the most appropriate devices for the different service areas. The clear facts are that one size does not fit all. A food hygiene inspector for example wants to update the back office system in real time and then generate an electronic document for signature. Whilst this is possible on a PDA it is much more practical on a Tablet PC of either A5 or A4 size.
However, someone recording a fly tipping incident or abandoned vehicle can use a PDA or Blackberry to capture in real time relatively straightforward data, GPS position and digital photograph and feed these directly into the back office.
The ReGS team have put together a portable field case which includes a bag that acts as a stand, with keyboard, printer and power all in one bag. When working in the office or at home, the tablet PC plugs into a docking station with full size keyboard and monitor.
